Salesforce CPQ Line Editor Settings

In a previous blog, I walked through how to navigate to the CPQ Package Settings as well as gave a general overview of what can be found in the settings tab.  We also discussed the importance of not changing settings without first understanding the downstream impacts (assuming there is a CPQ implementation already in place).  Within the CPQ Package Settings area, there are some sections that have quite a few options.  I am going to break those down individually to allow for more consumable information.  This blog will discuss the “Line Editor” options for Quotes in CPQ Package Settings.

Open CPQ Package Settings

As a reminder, to access the CPQ Package Settings, navigate to Setup -> Installed Packages -> Salesforce CPQ -> Configure.  The below screenshot is what the standard Line Editor header and options will look like after you access the CPQ Package Settings.

Key Fields in the Line Editor Tab

I will not be discussing every single option shown in the screenshot above. However, I will go over the important and often updated settings.

Hide Renewed Assets When Editing:  When enabled, this setting hides renewed assets so that they don’t display in the Quote Line Editor.  This is because these assets do not have a total. As a result, you don’t have the ability to discount them as they’re part of a renewal. Hiding lines in the Quote Line Editor that users cannot edit is extremely helpful for new CPQ users.

Visualize Product Hierarchy:  This setting is important for companies specifically with complex bundle structures.  It indents the components of a bundle for easier navigation and visualization of the product bundle.

Totals Field:  This is the field that CPQ uses for driving totals downstream on Quotes.  This picklist field allows you to select custom currency fields to be chosen as opposed to the default Net Total.

Large Quote Threshold:  Input the number for the maximum amount of lines to send before CPQ only sends the “essential” lines to the output document.

Actions Column Placement:  This is a choice of right or left for the delete and edit buttons

Product Configuration Initializer:  If you have a custom VF page for the Quote Line Configurator, reference that page in this field.

Next, we will discuss pricing and calculation settings! Until then, review my related posts and links below!
